Recommendations

  • Altitude Preparation: Given that Cusco and Machu Picchu are at high altitudes, we recommend that travelers acclimatize appropriately. Arriving a day earlier or choosing gentle activities for the first few days can help adjust to the altitude.
  • Travel Insurance: It is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and luggage loss.
  • Clothing and Equipment: Wear comfortable clothing suitable for temperature changes. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential. Also, do not forget a small backpack for daily excursions.
  • Hydration and Health: It is crucial to drink plenty of water before and during your trip to prevent dehydration, especially when traveling at high altitudes where the air is thinner and dehydration can occur more quickly. Carry a reusable water bottle that you can refill throughout your journey.
  • Local Culture and Customs: Respecting local traditions and customs is essential when traveling. Understanding and appreciating local practices not only enriches your travel experience but also helps foster mutual respect between you and the local communities. Learning a few basic phrases in Spanish, such as "please" (por favor), "thank you" (gracias), and "hello" (hola), is appreciated and can enhance your interactions.
  • Money and Expenses: While many places in Peru accept credit cards, especially in major cities and tourist areas, it's always a good idea to carry some local currency (Peruvian soles) for smaller expenses, such as tips, public transportation, and purchases in local markets. It's also advisable to inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid any interruptions in card service due to unusual activity alerts.
